The cover of Sports Illustrated’s Olympic Preview issue features skier Lindsey Vonn bent over as if she were, um… skiing? As with everything these days, the cover is stirring up controversy. The Huffington Post reports that “some are upset by the possibly sexually suggestive pose.” Who’s feathers are ruffled now?
WomenTalkSports.com makes the claim that “when females are featured on the cover of SI, they are more likely than not to be in sexualized poses and not in action–and the most recent Vonn cover is no exception.”
Really? With a few exceptions (like this guy) athletes are sexy. Sex and sports go together like apple pie and baseball. Or Rush Limbaugh and fat. Armani didn’t get David Beckham (one more!) to model their underwear because he’s some unkempt couch potato. They wanted him because he’s fucking sexy. I’m not saying that the editors over at Sports Illustrated said, “let’s bend her over so it looks like she’s taking it up the ass!” But seriously. We objectify athletes regardless of their gender. Or hadn’t anyone noticed?
Ask these guys what they think. I’m just sayin’.
